Climate change affects monuments
14/12/2020

Within the framework of the Greek Presidency of the Council of Europe, the Ministry of Culture and Sport organised an online seminar on “Protecting Cultural Heritage from Climate Change: From Theory to Practice”.

The seminar discussed the issue of protecting cultural heritage from the consequences of climate change, for which the Greek Government and the Ministry of Culture and Sport have taken international initiatives.

The seminar was attended by the scientific director of the CLIMASCAPE programme Prof. Konstantinos Kartalis who presented the impact of climate change on cultural heritage and outlined the steps to draw up an adaptation plan to protect archaeological sites and monuments from climatic hazards such as extreme weather events, drought-desertification-erosion, forest fires, heats and rising sea levels.
